When I have the opportunity to sit down and talk with other homeschooling moms, their stories of how they came to homeschooling is always very similar. It usually starts with, "I said I would never homeschool," which always makes me chuckle because I once said the same thing.
Just like schooling outside of the home, homeschooling comes with its own set of challenges in managing the home and keeping your sanity with systems and routines.
On the show today, Courtney Albertson, a work-from-home, military mom, is sharing about her first year homeschooling. She tells us what led her to choose to homeschool and how she's had to work through mental barriers to unlearn the traditional school structure to make homeschooling fit her family's needs. She also shares how she balances doing everything on her own while her husband is deployed and how she gets him involved when he's not.
Stick around for part two of this conversation as I give her some home management coaching specific to her needs.

Have you ever noticed that restaurants and public businesses typically clean their bathrooms every evening? We would be disgusted if we walked into a public restroom if it wasn't cleaned at LEAST once a day.
But how often are the bathrooms in our home getting cleaned? Ekkk... I hate my own answer to that question.
I don't know about you but I enjoy using a clean bathroom. I just don't particularly enjoy sharing it with other people in my house who don't contribute to the keeping and cleaning of the said bathroom.
So of course, you know I found a system for that and my entire family is working on establishing this daily habit of cleaning the bathroom.
Listen to this episode as I share with you what my family is doing to keep our bathroom fresh, clean and always ready for guests.

Hey friend! Have you started decluttering your home but you get hung up on purging items that you've spent money on?
I encounter this all the time with my clients. They say things like "But I've spent a lot of money on that. I can't just get rid of it?
And my response is always the same. When was the last time you used it? Are you going to commit to using it again? Is it something you want to sit on a shelf and look at?
9 times out of 10 my clients end up parting with the items that is pulling on their pocketbook.
Today, I'm going to share with you the advice I tell every one of my clients when I'm helping them declutter their homes.
It really makes a difference in our session and their success in finishing the task and hopefully this will free you of holding onto things you've spent money on as well.

You're tired of your kids not helping around the house and when you do ask them to help you are met with attitude and under-breath comments. You have probably stopped asking and started just doing everything yourself because you're tired of the fight with them.
I was too but then I tired something different. To my surprise my son responded to my request with a positive attitude. He was pleasant and the task was finished quickly and thoroughly without me having to raise my voice or resort to any kind of shaming.
Tune in for today's podcast as I share with you what I did. It's truly the smallest change but I've noticed it making the most dramatic difference. Let's test this kind of parenting out on our kids for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

Hey friend! Let me ask you something that you're probably not thinking about and you probably won't ever think about until you're in the thick of the moment.
Do you have a backup plan for when sickness strikes in your home?
I found myself answering this question last week with a big fat no as my response. Jered and I were sick as dogs last week. Unable to even get off the couch for a couple of days.
Thankfully our kids are 9, 11, and 13 and are able to take care of themselves fairly well but through our sickness, I discovered that we could brush up on some habit training for our kids and that it would be extremely beneficial to have a plan established for when sickness strikes again.
I mean it's rare that both parents are sick at the same time but it would make it so much easier to think through these things ahead of time so it easier for everyone regardless of who is sick or well. Sickness just throws off all rhythms and routines in the home so having a plan is going to help keep the home more in order and help everyone bounce back quicker.
On today's show, I'm sharing with you three steps I'm taking to prepare us ahead of time for sickness. I encourage you to take some notes and join me in getting this system nailed down in your home as well.

Do you ever wish you were more intentional about spending quality time with your kids instead of just playing the role of their chauffeur and maid? Do you look back and regret not playing with them more when they were little? Do you wish there was a way to connect with them now so you can enjoy their company and make memories with them that help foster a deeper foundational relationship?
ME TOO! That's why I started doing this ONE thing with my kids four years ago, and now it's a yearly family tradition that we all look forward to.
Tune in as my boys and I share with you our favorite summer tradition and how this one thing has knitted our hearts closer together. You will want to start doing this with your family this summer too!

It's another Client Check-In episode!
Today I'm following up with Cathy Bush after I helped her declutter her home office and laundry room this year on New Year's Day. She gets real and honest with us telling us how she felt during the decluttering process, how she's doing managing her new decluttered and organized space, and what her plans are for more decluttering projects.
Staying clutter-free isn't easy but the more we remove what requires our personal management the better we're able to keep up with the day-to-day tidiness. Decluttering can feel time-consuming but living more minimally will save us time later on. I promise it's worth it!

I've been blogging on social media for the past 9-10 years and recently I noticed social media was the root of causing me to become less social. I found myself excluding myself from in-person friendships and depending on social media more to fill that need in my life.
You see, I was a lonely stay-at-home for years until I discovered I could connect with other moms and friends who were going through the same stage of life. Sure, the connections were kind of shallow and I couldn't depend on those friends to pick me up if my car broke down anywhere, but it provided the much-needed socialization I was missing.
Unfortunately, too much of a good thing soon becomes no longer a good thing and I realized how isolated I was becoming especially since the pandemic. The majority of my in-person friends stopped getting together and a lot of us found refuge in social media for human connection. But when the world went back to "somewhat normal," I had created a habit of only connecting with friends online and my in-person relationships were basically non-existent.
That's when I felt God tug my heart to lay social media down for a season. And it's been so good for my soul.
In today's episode, I'm getting very vulnerable and sharing with you how social media made me less social. Warning, there are some tears but I also give you some straight-up inspiration to lay down the social media beast as well. Do it friends! It's life-giving and I'm here for you if you need support.

Today marks an exciting day here on the podcast as I'm recording episode number 50. If you've been here since beginning, thank you for hanging out with me and for supporting the show. I hope it has been a blessing to your mama heart.
If you're new to the show, I share about all things decluttering, organizing, and habits in your home. Every now and then I sprinkle in a little bit of Jesus encouragement and habits in your home business.
On today's episode, I'm sharing with you five simple ways to enhance your home's curb appeal. If you've ever dreamed of being the mom who has a home that's welcoming and inviting, these steps will help you towards achieving that goal. And better yet they are things you can do on your own without much help because let's be honest.... not everyone cares about curb appeal as much as we do.
It seems so simple yet we're all too busy or distracted to actually do these tasks. Let this be some inspiration to get it done THIS WEEKEND!
Always with love, Lisa
